Elsie Cemetery, Perkins County, Nebraska

Elsie Cemetery is located approximately 1 mile east of Elsie, Perkins County, Nebraska. On Hwy 23 you travel east from Elsie. At about 1/2 mile take the graveled turn to the left (it should be the first crossing you encounter) which will take you across a railroad track. Immediately after crossing the track you must choose to turn ... Turn right on the gravel road. Go approximately one more half mile. Turn left on the paved drive to the cemetery which is about a half mile
north. The cemetery is very visible on a small hill to the north of Hwy 23 and the railroad. Elsie and area was settled beginning in 1885-86 when the first homesteads were claimed in the area, through 1887 when the Burlington Railroad completed its branch line connecting all of the new communities in this new farming area. From cemetery records it appears the earliest recorded burial was John W. Vine, deceased May 16, 1885. The land for the cemetery was donated by George Shields. The cemetery is maintained regularly and is still used by the citizens of the Elsie
area. (Latest burial was 11 Feb 1999.)
