In a letter from Hattie Coulson to Pearl Larson which relayed family information she had gotten from Fred, she states that "Fred does not know the year they came from England, nor does he know the year they came from St. Charles, Minn. Fred's Dad (Edward) went to school in Minn, Dover he says and was a school mate of one of the Dr. Mayo's." They proved up the land in 1888 after homesteading on the land 5 years, the requested time. So they must hve come to SD about 1883 if they took up land right away, not sure."
